Just a quick post (and some bad photography) to introduce Project Carmichael and share the surprise Father’s Day gallery wall we installed. This house is a beauty but all of the furniture is from my client’s previous home and we’ll slowly be making updates, switching things out, mixing new with old and pulling everything together room by room. First up, the office. It’s at the front of the house and has french doors so it’s the first thing guests see when they enter. There’s one wall of built-ins with a desk, but since they often work in there at the same the second desk is a must. We’ll be keeping the white one they have and since the rest of the room is filled with dark finishes (and beige paint) we’re adding white accents to pull the room together. The first step was creating a family gallery wall in white frames. It’s such a happy first impression and with kids as cute as theirs blown up photos are a must. Here is the empty wall before:
We went with Ikea Ribba frames but sprayed the mats white (ugh those ugly yellowish mats from Ikea… but that price just can’t be beat and spray paint costs <$10 a can). Just remove the mats, spray them (they take about ten minutes to dry) and then proceed as you would. Make sure you wipe off the excess chalky texture from the mats because over time it will flake off under the glass. I used flat white spray paint — we also tested a flat grey but agreed it was too heavy with the beige walls and white desk.
We haven’t done anything else (aside from cleaning up) — There will definitely be 2 new chairs, a rug, a new pendant light, new knobs and some awesome accessories to style the room in the very near future. Even this one wall makes a massive difference in the room. In case you were wondering, the surprise was a huge success. I got a very nice text from a very grateful client!
Have a great weekend.
