The Curated Cabin

ABOUT

My name is Jordy Beale. When I’m not designing awesome spaces for my Cabin Co. Design clients, designing cool logos, graphics and websites for my freelance clients or running Rock Your Cause (with my wonderful business partner, Mara) I’m probably watching HGTV. Ever since I can remember I would come home from school and watch “Michelle” (aka Full House) and then switch right to Trading Spaces (of TLC fame) at 4:00. Although I’m still a massive Genevieve Gorder fan, my TV viewing tastes have sophisticated slightly since then (Pretty Little Liars, anyone?), my true love remains being captivated by a good old “before and after”.

The Curated Cabin is a documentation of my love for design (in all forms) and my quest to curate our very own cabin in the city. Ben and I just purchased our first home in Toronto, and while he would be more than satisfied with the periwinkle and lime green walls of its previous owners, I have bigger plans for our space. Since Ben is not exactly a “visionary” when it comes to design, I find myself constantly making scaled mock ups of what each room in our house can will look like, in an effort to get him to give two *%&$* about my excitement. This blog will document my questionable attempts to tear him away from Sunday Football (unlikely) and help me with a DIY project. I’ll be sharing inspiration, project tutorials, before and afters, mood boards and mock ups, floor plans, etc. As well as personal design projects and client projects (both graphic/web and interior). My hope is that The Curated Cabin will lead to more opportunities to do what I love: design.

CABIN LOVE

ABOUT-PIX

Growing up, I spent summers at camp and winters at my family’s chalet. Canoe trips in Ontario’s provincial parks are my ideal summer getaway and Ben, a high school English teacher, still works at our childhood summer camp (lucky!) Naturally, our chosen design aesthetic would gravitate towards natural wood tones accented by antlers found on portages. My love for shopping at antique markets as a child more than likely contributes to my belief that a room is incomplete without something that is vintage, antique or handmade. While I believe that comfort and function come first, style is a close second. Most importantly, I strongly believe that a home should be a true reflection of the people who inhabit it.
